There cannot be too many compliments that mean more than ‘diva’. If a woman is called a diva, she is being called divine, because the root of diva is the Latin ‘divus’, or divine. It celebrates how talented and outstanding the woman is. Singers, stars, artists are all referred to as divas, and now, so are the beauties of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE).
The WWE divas are among the world’s sexiest women and are also athletic entertainers known to be great performers. The most popular current age WWE divas include Candice Michelle, Torrie Wilson, Jillian Hall, Maria Kanellis, Melina Perez, Victoria and Beth Phoenix. These ladies train very hard, just as much as their male counterparts, and put on quite a show for the audience.
WWE divas were not always the centre of attention. The earlier divas were managers, who earned the complimentary title after several years of service. They were there to provide valet-ringside managerial services for professional male wrestlers, such as Hulk Hogan, Shawn Michaels and Macho Man Randy Savage. The most notable early-day WWE divas are Miss Elizabeth, Sensational Sherri Martel, Tammy Lynn Sytch (Sunny), Rena Mero (Sable), Terri Runnels and Trish Stratus. The latter two entered the arena as managers and later became pro wrestlers themselves.
The life of WWE divas have not always been easy. But now, their recognition standards are aptly proven by the WWE Women’s Title. These WWE divas have made the sport famous to such an extent that ambitious contestants make their way to the annual WWE Diva Search with hopes of glory.
Raw, Smackdown, ECW and Pay-Per-View are the regular wrestling entertainment events in which the WWE divas participate. The more unorthodox forms of wrestling in the women’s category include various events such as lingerie pillow fights, pudding and gravy bowl matches and even bikini battle royals. These lovely divas attract more than the mere wrestling fan by engaging in such fascinating sporting specials.
The current WWE Raw Women’s Championship title is held by Micki James, which was awarded to her on the 14th April 2008.
WWE focuses on professional wrestling of all types and promotes it through three brands - Raw, ECW and SmackDown. Professional wrestling is considered as a simulated sport and performing art, which means it’s a combination of athletic wrestling and dramatics. WWE is the the world’s largest professional wrestling promoter and holds great significance in the sporting world.
