The legend of Elvis Presley continues to amaze many people still today. He had many big hits and grand performances. However, it is many want to get to know this man as he was behind the performances. They want to know what Elvis Presley was like at home, particularly at Graceland.
The Price of Fame
The fame and recognition that Elvis achieved didn’t come without a price. Becoming popular and an object of the craze of many people led Elvis Presley to take some measures to ensure his safety and comfort. As much as he was popular to many young kids, he also figured into some controversies. This naturally pushed him to make some changes in his personal arrangements.
Constructing a Home
It is claimed that one of the things that Elvis Presley sought to prioritize after achieving success was to secure the comfort of his mother. Elvis Presley wanted to give his mother a better home in Memphis. This factor coincided with the need to find a more secure place for Elvis Presley as he became more well known. This resulted in Elvis constantly going back to Memphis to see to the construction of a mansion that would be his refuge and home.
The Graceland Mansion
Elvis Presley started construction of the Graceland mansion in 1957. The Graceland mansion served as home to the King. It covered several acres of land. This place used to be known as South Bellevue Road. It is now named after the King with the address as 3764 Elvis Presley Boulevard in Whitehaven, Memphis.
This Graceland property was originally a farm, during the time of the American Civil War. The owner of the property had another buyer. However, upon seeing the property, Elvis made a higher offer in order to buy it.
The mansion constructed in Graceland has two stories. There are about 18 to 23 rooms in, depending on the use the occupants give to it. It has remarkable Corinthian columns that welcome people as they enter the mansion. The house was also painted blue and gold by the king of rock.
Conclusion
The Graceland mansion served as home to Elvis during his lifetime. He also made sure that everyone in his family would be sheltered by the mansion. He sought refuge, rested and spent time with his family there. Upon the death of Elvis Presley, the property was then transferred to his daughter as willed by Elvis himself.
